Dr Ken Dobler (NSW)

Hunter Valley Based, New South Wales, Australia
Medical practitioner, wine judge, wine importer and educator.

Ken developed an interest in food and wine early in his undergraduate years at Sydney University, at which time he began writing a fine food and wine column in the journal of the Sydney University Medical Society, 'Inominate'.

After graduating from university he took up residency at the Westmead Hospital in Sydney but his interest in food and wine soon lured him to the Hunter Valley where he planted a vineyard and started work for Kirkton Park Country House Hotel as Food and. Beverage Manager and, eventually, General Manager. Whilst working at Kirkton Park he enrolled in the Wine Science course at. Charles Sturt University

During his tenure at Kirkton Park a chance encounter with Len Evans fuelled his enthusiasm for the Australian Wine Show system.

Ken's show judging career started in 1996 as a trainee associate at the Hunter Valley Wine Show where he progressed to associate and eventually judge and has judged at that show on some 10 occasions.
He was awarded the Petaluma Scholarship to attend The Len Evans Tutorials in 2003

He has also judged the National Wine Show Canberra and the Sydney Royal Wine Show a number of times Ken has judged the Sydney International Wine Competition since 2007.

For several years Ken has been engaged in wine education, chiefly through the Pokolbin Sommeliers Group and the Hunter Wine Forum. He acts as a consultant to Akkerman Fine Wines and Milton Park Country Hotel. Ken retains memberships of The Single Bottle Club, The Other Bottle Club, the Confrerie de Chevalier du Tastevin and the Len Evans Options Club.

As well as conducting a busy medical practice in the Hunter Valley Ken continues to make Chardonnay for Dobler Wines and is a principal of Domaine Burgundy wine shippers, importers of high quality French wine.
