Judges' Comments

Warren Gibson
Complex nose. Forest floor. Rich and concentrated. Lots of power and length yet light on its feet. Delicious match with the duck dish. Long and lingering flavours.

Meg Brodtmann
Slightly gamey notes on the nose, suggesting a bit of development. Hints of stalks and whole bunch berry fruit. On the palate, slightly confected berry fruit with stalky tannins. The tannin profile is slightly drying for the fruit. With the duck, the wine appears less drying but also less fruity.

Dr Ken Dobler
Light brick red colour. Attractive stewed fruit and earthy aromas on the nose. Rich complex palate with a dry tannic finish. Food certainly tempers the tannin and improves the wine.

Brent Marris
Lovely ripe berry dominate nose with hints of fresh mushroom. Great fruit driven mid palate with ripe tannins and integrated oak. Lovely concentration of flavours on the finish. A great match with the duck as the sweetness of the berry fruit comes through beautifully.

Ying Tan
Light med-red. Spicy dark cherry, hint of hawthorn on nose. Med-bodied, dry, spicy hawthorn tinged crushed red berries, light, fine soft tannins. Simple. Dry cherry spicy finish. Duck Risotto is a very nice complement, bringing out gaminess in both food and wine, savoury characters accentuated.

Sue Bastian
Mid garnet red with slight orange tints. Balsamic strawberries, musky, slightly damp leaves on the nose. The palate is rich in red fruits but still delicate and elegant. Satin edged tannin which drives a pretty good length. Although flavours are harmonious. This match seems to bring out the acid in the wine.
