Judges' Comments

Kym Milne
Very ripe plums, some raisin, slightly jammy notes. Big, rich, sweet fruit, slightly soupy palate with tart edge. A bit sweet/sour

Stuart Halliday
Massive and powerful, full bodied, loads of ripe fruit, big oak and big tannins, sweet palate, full and long

Oliver Masters
Dense colour, dense sweet red fruit nose, powerful fine palate, good sweet fruit freshness, good match with beef cheek

Natasha Hughes
Rich spiced damsons and a bit of savoury leather. Just about in balance, despite being hefty and ripe.

Corey Ryan
Deep crimson colour, lifted perfumed vanillin oak spice and pepper notes. The palate is chewy textural rounded juicy. The lifted fresh fruits – ripe fruits are promoted with the wine – the refined tannins complement the texture in the beef cheek.

Matthew Deller
Dark/black appearance. Impressive layered dark and dried fruits, liquorice, spice, black olive, black raspberry, chilli, clove, espresso oak. Very dense, with old vine concentration and mid palate creaminess, fresh acidity and string, powdery tannins. Good length, with a drying finish. Food accentuates the alcohol, oak and sweetness.
