Judges' Comments
Mark Robertson
It had a
beautiful colour. Terrific and a real maraschino, vibrant, lifted
nose. On the finish, there were some menthol greens on the nose.
This translated on the palate to a wine that lacked warmth. It had
handy oak. It was short and truncated. Perhaps a query on the tannin.
The acid pulled this wine up. It was a good, sound wine.
Andrew Wigan
Quite bright and
showing a touch of crushed stem. A medium bodied style with soft
flavours.
Kym Milne
Ripe, berry,
cherry, medium bodied. An easy palate then a firm tannin structure
on the finish with a long finish. The wine was enhanced with the
food. Quite elegant but long and complex. It coped with the food
well.
Warren Gibson
Vibrant cherry,
berry notes. Attractive ripeness comes through on the palate. Perhaps
slightly one dimensional and short. The wine worked very well though
with the dish and the acidity helped to linger the flavours and
cleanse the finish.
Adrian Atkinson
Dumb on the
nose. Quite dry and lean on the palate with a slight animal character
to the palate as well. It finished short and simple with the food.
Quite a pleasant wine but it was a touch dry and a bit dull.
Tony Allen
It doesn’t
offer much on the nose versus others in this bracket. Quite a
straightforward palate with some structure. It went absent without
leave alongside the dish.
Debra Meiburg
Restrained,
quiet fruit. A simple, modest wine for early drinking. Acceptable
with the duck but no fireworks here.
