Judges' Comments

Mark Robertson

Very pure, ripe fruit and lifted, extremely powerful nose. It had a hint of citrus and green coriander. Very pure, clean and bright wine. It was terrific. The palate had a lovely acid. The wine seemed to sing along. There was a very good, strong, cherry, anise, char with a hint of rocket on the end which gave an impression of a very spicy, powerful wine. It was a pure wine with great length. Very good.

Andrew Wigan

Bright, vibrant red with a touch of cherry, rhubarb and crushed leaf. Lovely flavour with a textured, soft finish.

Tony Allen

Ripe, perfumed, aromatic nose. It has elements of both soft red and soft dark fruits. It has decent structure on the palate and also some spice. The food lifted the underlying fruit element of the wine.

Kym Milne

A slightly cabbage, slightly stewed character on the nose. A little bit flat and dull. An odd mix of some herbal and some dried fruit aromas and flavours. Slightly hard in tannin with a slightly sweet/sour effect on the palate. Okay with the food but the wine looked a bit clumsy.

Warren Gibson

A slightly simple nose. Primary fruit. Simple on the palate. One dimensional but pure and clean. With the duck, it showed some hardness on the palate. Generally the wine lacked power to match the dish along with the acidity.

Debra Meiburg

Red raspberry, sweet oak. Light and fleet on its feet. A simple, refreshing Pinot Noir. Not an enhancement for the meal. Perhaps refreshing on its own on a summer’s day.

Adrian Atkinson

Some chalky characters on the nose with elegance and density on the palate. Nice length and concentration with the food. The character of the wine came through nicely, however there seemed to be a bit of acid and greenness that stuck out a bit. It had some great length.
