Debra Meiburg
Dense, red
strawberries. Cherry accents. Herbal hints. Crisp acidity, gripping
tannins. This is a food wine. The meat benefits from the wine’s
exotic nature.

Immediately
savoury and stalky on the nose. Lifted and attractive. Stalky notes
come through on the palate. Nice acidity and purity with good length.
The savoury nature of the wine complements the duck dish, leaving
lingering flavours and a clean finish.

Whilst this wine
has a better colour, a menthol capsicum character comes through.
There’s also a trace of bretanomysis. Not normally a problem. The
palate has a brutal tannin on it. It is short and drying. The food
isn’t enough to cover this wine. It is still tough going.

Bright, medium
red with lots of crushed stalk and some cherry underneath. Reductive
characters showing through.
Kym Milne
A deep colour.
Slightly forward. Rich, meaty nose. A slightly angular palate and a
touch drying on the finish. It looked a little raw with the food and
slightly tart.
Adrian Atkinson
Medium dark
colour. Some gravel and tar notes on the palate but nice dense fruit
and elegance. It seems to have some of this bret on the finish. Quite
a smoky, green palate with the food and a very dry finish.
Tony Allen
A slightly
vegetal and herbaceous nose carried through to the palate.
Attractive, ripe underlying fruit, but it didn’t go well with this
particular dish.
