Judges' Comments

Adrian Atkinson

Medium damson red colour. Lifted, bright Pinot fruit. Dense dark forest fruits with lifted cherry and cream palate. Dense and bright. With the food the wine went particularly well.

Andrew Wigan

Quite deep in colour with solid dark fruit and a hint of crushed stem. Nice richness and structure and great texture.

Tony Allen

Ripe, lifted nose of summer berry fruits. The ripe fruit carried to the palate and gave a welcoming sweet addition to the dish. Both the food and the wine benefited.

Warren Gibson

Deep colour. Ripe fruit. Pure. A big wine. Rich and powerful with dense, ripe fruit and richness on the palate. Sweetness shows through with the dish. Perhaps overly so and maybe lacking some acidity but generally a good match.

Kym Milne

A very ripe and juicy Pinot nose. Quite berry, cherry. A rich, full, textured palate with ripe berry flavours. Quite a big, rich style but with some silkiness and good tannins. It was a good wine with the food. It had plenty of richness and coped with the duck very well.

Debra Meiburg

Raspberry, cherry, dark berry. Dense, complex fruit. Balanced acidity. Fresh, vibrant. Velvety tannins. Persistent flavours. Well suited for meats with heft and flavour with this fruit intensity.

Mark Robertson

It had an arresting colour. Very plummy eucalypt nose just on the back, but a sensational palate. Ripe, layered, long, sweet and savoury. It appeared slightly hot, but it more than made up for it by complex layers of aniseed tannin which was very grainy and proper.
