Judges' Comments

Kym Milne

Complex, good, fragrant. Some slight barnyard characters. Very bright, floral with some texture. A slightly tart edge but quite long and vibrant. An easy foil with the food. Elegant and long.

Mark Robertson

A good colour on this wine. Generous, tarry, powerful nose. Right up there. A subtle hint of eucalypt but powerfully cherry and varietal. This wine had terrific balance. Fruit, tannin, acid. Just beautifully done. The wine sings. It’s excellent. Round, lingering and a true pleasure.

Andrew Wigan

Attractive medium red colour with a soft dark cherry bouquet. Great flavour and a lovely firm finish. Classic flavours of Pinot Noir.

Adrian Atkinson

Lifted, dense fruit and damson concentration with a sort of sweetness but a slight elegance to it. With the food, there is an elegance and poise to the wine with a good flow of mouth watering acidity.

Warren Gibson

A simple, strawberry fruit driven nose. Pure and elegant. Beautifully pure even if not overly complex. Lovely, vibrant acidity. The wine works okay with the duck but generally, the power isn’t there and whilst there is acidity apparent, there isn’t enough power to match the food.

Debra Meiburg

Forest berries, green herbal hints. Firm acidity. Persistent flavours.

Tony Allen

Quite complex versus many in this flight in that it was both modern and traditional in style. It went very well with the various elements of the dish and gave a well balanced additional sweetness.
