Judges' Comments
Warren Gibson
Some tobacco and
undergrowth plus herbal, greener edges on the nose. Similar notes on
the palate. A savoury style. A nice match with the duck dish. The
herbal notes linger on the finish. There was enough savoury acidity
to work in synergy.

Complex, gamy,
some barnyard aromas. Quite a full palate. Textured sweet oak with
some gamy characters and barnyard. A touch dry and hard on the
finish. The savoury notes were good with this dish.

Very intense for
a lightly coloured wine. Some herbal characters but varietally pure
underneath that. Shorter. More citrus flavours. A little bit like
lemon meringue but nice fruitiness and power.

Great varietal
character in that it offers both redcurrant and strawberry fruit as
well as a vegetal character. It lacks layers and complexity though.
It tasted quite clumsy alongside the food but not bad.

Medium red
colour with a hint of sappiness. A medium weight style.

Quite prune like
and overripe on the nose. Cooked and dense but has mineral, chalky
tannins and some barnyard mid palate characters. It finishes sweet.
With the food, a strange greenness comes through which wasn’t
evident earlier.

Red cherry, wild
herb, lemon hints. Lean, firm, lengthy finish. A sassy accompaniment
for the duck.
