Judges' Comments

Mark Robertson

A big, arresting colour. Wonderful nose. Floral, cherry and plum. Ripe and a concentrated, powerful palate. It was very good. It had this metallic iodine character, but the wine had exceptional persistence and was a stand out in its class.

Warren Gibson

Dense fruit. Some savoury, stalky notes. Great colour. Intense palate. Vibrant and long. Beautiful cherry notes on the finish. Not necessarily the greatest wine and food match. Maybe some acidity lacking there, but a pretty good wine nonetheless.

Andrew Wigan

Beautiful, bright red hues with a tightly wound bouquet of dark fruit and rhubarb. Good intensity and great palate length.

Debra Meiburg

Savoury, wild berry. Layered peppery hints. Crisp acidity, firm tannins and a moderate finish. The savoury wine character accents and seasons the gaminess of the duck.

Kym Milne

Fragrant, good lifted Pinot Noir nose. A big structured style. Good flavour. Still a bit firm but needs some time. Rich fruit flavours with some oak sweetness still apparent on the finish. Good with the food. A very good wine but just needs some time in the bottle. Still a little bit big and a little bit raw.

Tony Allen

Quite spicy and showy versus some, but it did not deliver any real quality and depth. It tasted like a sweet fruit cordial when paired with the duck.

Adrian Atkinson

A big, dense colour with rich, chalky tannins and some fruit. Structure was okay. It had a porty nose. On the palate, this porty and dry red character came through and it didn’t seem to have enough concentration or class.
