Dear Friends in Wine & Food

2011. OUR THIRTIETH ANNIVERSARY COMPETITION!
Gosh! And how our approach to wine has changed over those thirty years. This Show has always aimed to elevate the appreciation of wine as a civilised beverage to be enjoyed as a complement to food - a thoughtful wine selection for the given dish. You don’t need to invest in a cellar full of wine choices. Each year, we offer you, free of charge, a Panel of highly qualified judges’ collective suggestions for “ready-now”, current release wines, to meet all your dining requirements. Have your own wine drinking habits changed over these years? Your comments invited, your feedback, always welcome.

AWARDS AND TROPHIES PRESENTATION BANQUET 2011
Saturday 26 February, Shangri-La Sydney Hotel.
James Halliday AM will deliver the Keynote Speech, “The End of an Era - and a New Beginning”

Excitement mounts as the date approaches for the announcement of the complete list of Award and Trophy winners of the thirtieth Competition.  Our 2011 website, with all the results, will go live at 5.00pm that same afternoon. More.

ABOUT THE 2011 COMPETITION
2,060 wines were entered into the 2011 Sydney International - 60 more than the declared Entries Cap. But it is hard to turn off the tap at the right moment as you approach the Cap. There are Entries in the post arriving after the Cap has been reached. And even the on-line electronic entries are still arriving after the website’s Entry Form has been removed.

These 2,060 Entries were received from 478 Entrants. As usual, the majority of the wines came from Australia, from every State plus the ACT. But also, from the following Countries, in descending order of Entries: New Zealand, Italy, France, South Africa, Argentina, Greece, India, Spain, England. More.

CHIEF JUDGE’S SUMMARY OF THE 2011 COMPETITION
“In summary, again, within this year’s Award winners, at various price points in each of the different Style Categories, the consumer has a very interesting and diverse range of high quality wines from which to select, providing many enjoyable options for a complete range of dining occasions.”. More.

MY CELLAR DOOR
You have enjoyed the “Beautiful Vineyards” photography and  their details, lower centre of the Home Page? Keep sending. We are still adding to that library.

To offer added encouragement to our viewers to visit your Region, we now invite wineries and wine tourists to submit your “Cellar Door” photography. It might be ever so humble, a tin shed, dirt floor, sun streaming through holes in a rusty tin roof, to ultra modern, stainless steel sculptures, conducted winery tours on the hour, displays of local artists paintings, smiling trained uniformed greeters, and everything in between.

What’s more, it can be from anywhere in the world.   Let’s see it from Rheims, Tuscany, Israel, Mexico, Uruguay, Niagara, Lebanon, Greece, Penedès, Slovenia, Paarl, as well as Australasia. We receive entries from all of those places. Give us the Cellar Door Manager’s name, too. “Is Margaret in today?” Such an easy conversation starter for visitors to your “Cellar Door”.

Submit your photography of “My Cellar Door”. Why not have “Margaret”, even the whole team, welcoming, greeting, on the steps? Click here for your My Cellar Door pro-forma. If it meets Webmaster’s quality standards, we’ll publish it, free of charge.

Till we meet again!

Warren Mason
Competition Director.
