Entries
are
now being accepted for the 33rd Sydney
International Wine
Competition. Entries from all countries are welcome.
A formidable international
panel of returning and new judges will
assemble in the World
Heritage listed Blue Mountains, 100kms west of Sydney, in October to
judge a capped 2000 entries under the leadership of founder Warren
Mason.
South Australia's Kym
Milne MW will
be returning to chair the panel for the 10th time. Other returning
judges include Brent
Marris (New
Zealand), Ken
Dobler (New
South Wales), Meg
Brodtmann MW
(Victoria),
Oliver
Masters (New
Zealand), and Xenia
Irwin MW
(UK).
Iain
Riggs (New
South Wales) returns for the first time since 1990, while first-time
judges
will be Brett
Crittenden (UK),
Bryan
Currie (New
South Wales), Cameron
Douglas MS (New
Zealand), Steven
Fang (Taiwan)
and Dr
Aakash Singh Rathore (USA).
Joining them as Reserve Judge in
Residence will be Stuart
Halliday (New
South Wales), chosen for his
experience and knowledge as a career sommelier.
What makes the Sydney
International Wine Competition unique is that the wines are judged
alongside
appropriately weighted food, again this
year, to be devised by Michael
Manners.
"It
is a show designed for the benefit of
consumers as well as wine producers," said Mason. "That is also the focus of our website,
which points
consumers to Award winning wines in specific categories so they can
maximise their dining
pleasure, creating harmonious food-wine matches."
Entries close
as soon as the 2,000 Entries cap is reached. The Competition
will be judged 14-18 October and
entrants will be advised of their provisional
results on or before 4 November 2013.
