Dear Friends - in Wine and Food

IS THE GLASS HALF EMPTY - OR HALF FULL?
Well, in the case of the 2,000 Entries Cap for the 2012 Sydney International Wine Competition, the glass is two thirds full!  With the 16 September Official Close of Entries still four weeks away, we zipped through the fourteen hundred entries check point this morning. Further entries are arriving as I write. Still plenty of time. See here.

CELEBRITY CHEF
A new initiative. For added lustre to our cluster of food dishes that we suggest for particular wine styles (see here) renowned Chef Michael Manners will be our 2012 Competition’s Celebrity Chef, designing, creating, writing the recipes, describing the dishes for the Competition’s 2012 website and preparing the food to accompany the 2012 Competition’s Finalists in the judging of the Competition’s thirteen Wine Style Categories. Speaking of lustre, read about Michael’s illustrious career here.

MORE, PLEASE!
Oh, I do like this one, but not alone. “Thank you so much for clarifying that for me Warren. I have to say, I wish all of the wine show entries were as user friendly as yours.” Sarah Allan | Cellar Door Manager and Marketing Coordinator | Fermoy Estate Winery and Vineyard | Margaret River WA. www.fermoy.com.au

RUBBISH!
It’s an All Comers Wine Competition.
We consumers pay good money to buy wines and, always, we are the final arbiters of a wine’s merits in terms of meeting our expectations. There are many factors that determine our purchasing decisions and price is often one of them. It’s a strange and complicated world and sometimes price, impressing the guest with how much you paid for the Brand Name, is the main objective. We don’t judge in price categories. Occasionally, you will find a RRP $25 or less wine sitting along side a wine of three or four times that RRP price tag that has won the same award,. But does the wine you chose do the job, alongside the dish you have chosen? That is the true test. Here is an article for discussion at your next dinner party.

Talk again soon?
