Judges' Comments

Warren Gibson
Excellent bottle age. Toasty and fresh at the same time. Acidity quite pronounced. Excellent match with the dish. The toasty characters linger.

Meg Brodtmann
A great nose showing classic aged Semillon characters of toast, honey, lemon pith and some snow pea.  Beautifully structured with a fine acid backbone and developing flavours of toast and honey.  The wine is still fresh and tight.  The wine is not improved by the celeriac but stands up to it.

Dr Ken Dobler
Lovely straw yellow with hints of green still apparent. Lovely complex aromas of lanolin and smoky bacon. Palate shows excellent complexity of flavour with both complex aged notes but retaining life and freshness. Wonderful length of flavour makes this a great foil for food.

Brent Marris
Green straw, hints of toastyness, slight grapefruit/quince notes with green apple undertones from the nose right through to the palate. Great texture, length and finishes with a hint of nuttiness and citrus notes. A great match with the Celeriac dish as the toasty notes and green apple notes are highlighted even more.

Ying Tan
Intense, toasty, waxy, buttery, lemony baked apple and spice nose, typical of Hunter Valley Semillon.  Light, but with good mid-palate weight of creamy, waxy, lanolin toast and apple, balanced.  Dry, long finish. Celeriac brings out buttery nuttiness whilst emphasizing acidity, giving a boost of freshness.

Sue Bastian
Bright pale-medium yellow gold with hints of green. Intense, honey-lemon drops. Bright acidity with honey and lemon curd on toast. The citrus notes match the flavours of the food well but the wine dominates.
