Judges' Comments

Warren Gibson
Attractive ripe, Cabernet/cassis notes. Lifted and pure. Strong savoury but well balanced tannins. A suggestion of eucalypt. Quite drying with the beef cheek.

Meg Brodtmann
Brooding nose with some bramble, jammy blackberry and cedary oak. Stewed black fruits fill out the mid and front palate with the oak evident as toast and roasted almonds. The tannins are huge and slightly drying. The wine needs food and is very young. Improved with the food as the sweet sauce and protein support the tannins and sweet fruit.

Dr Ken Dobler
Deep red, crimson colour. Attractive spicy black cherry, cigar box aromas on the nose. The palate shows lovely fruit drive with a long tannic finish that looked more balanced when tasted with food.

Brent Marris
Light elegant black current notes on the nose. Integrated oak with lifted fruit. Ripe tannin structure with notes of stewed rhubarb coming through. Lovely firm tannins on the finish. A good match with the beef cheeks. Tannins hold up well as does the fruit.

Ying Tan
Deep red. Restrained but dense concentration of dark berries, plum, pencil shavings on the nose. Full, dry, minty, blackcurrant, cedar, pencil shavings, good mid-palate density and weight but fairly straightforward. Dry slightly finish. Beef Cheek drops dryness, fruit and flavour up with a sense of more energy in the wine

Sue Bastian
Opaque and very deep purple. Mod intense blackcurrant crumble, hints of herbs. Firm acid and lots of grainy tannin, with an intense burst of dark fruit flavours on the back palate and providing lots of length. The food brings out the lovely dark fruits on the palate of this wine.
