Judges' Comments

Warren Gibson
Ripe fruit. Slightly closed at first. Opened up to show spice and pepper. Firm tannins but in balance. Lean and bitter with the dish

Meg Brodtmann
Fresh licorice, plum, black cherry and oak on the nose. The palate is huge but has lovely fresh red and black fruit flavours and is not overpowered by tannin. Well balanced. Well matched with the food with the big fruits balanced by the charry steak.

Dr Ken Dobler
Deep garnet colour. Earthy, spicy characters complexed with powerful black plum aromas. Excellent varietal fruit characters on the palate with a pleasing length of flavour.

Brent Marris
Ripe rich fruit on the nose. Sweet berry fruit on the mid palate. Ripe chewy tannins. Red pepper and dark chocolate come through on the finish of the palate. A great match with the steak dish as the tannins are more harmonious and the lovely berry fruit is lifted.

Ying Tan
Deep dense dark red. Concentrated black pepper black berries, spice, tar on the nose. Full, dry, soft ripe tannins, good concentration of spicy crushed black berries, black pepper, oak. Dry creamy finish. Long. Sirloin gives a very nice point up of floral, spicy savoury fruit character, energising the wine.

Sue Bastian
Very deep magenta. Plums, dark berries, vanilla and spicy coconut. Some nice upfront sweet dark fruits, bit of menthol and white pepper. Blockbuster wine with good length. This is a full bodied wine!! It slightly dominates the dish, but some punters will love this.
