Judges' Comments

Warren Gibson
Very pure spice and pepper nose. Some red licorice. Attractive black olive/tapenade note. Northern Rhone feel. Rich and savoury. Acidity and tannin show through with the dish

Meg Brodtmann
Antipasto platter in a glass black olives, charcuterie and smoked meats. On the palate the oak is more evident with aniseed but there is still plenty of meatiness and tapenade. Chalky tannins. Completely oak dominated with the food.

Dr Ken Dobler
Bright crimson red. Plummy earthy notes on the nose. Bright primary fruit on the palate with very complex earthy, spicy flavours giving interest. The palate has a long persistence, that tannic edge is much better balanced with food.

Brent Marris
Ripe round black berry fruit notes on the nose. Hints of sweet oak and black pepper characters on the palate. Ripe chocolate flavours with hints of earthy notes coming through on the finish. Steak work is well as wine flavours and characters are lifted.

Ying Tan
Deep dark red. Floral, lightly spicy red berries and plum nose. Med-full, dry, lightly tannic, spicy, concentrated, dark redfruit, firm juicy tannins. Dry juicy finish. Hot tail. Sirloin has a fairly neutral impact.

Sue Bastian
Deep purple. Plum skin slightly reductive nose. Plums on the palate. Sandy tannin.
