Judges' Comments

Warren Gibson
Pure dark fruits. Very pure. Firm tannins. Sweet fruit and a nice balance. Tannins are still lingering with the dish

Meg Brodtmann
Quite meaty on the nose with hints of smoky barbeque. There are aromas of macerated strawberries but very much as background. Quite grunty on the palate, with dusty, slightly drying tannins. Some red berry fruit but lacking fruit weight to support the tannins. The wine seemed to have less fruit with the steak and appear more drying.

Dr Ken Dobler
Bright crimson. Effusive red berry confection aromas apparent on the nose. Those same confection flavours on the palate with more savoury spicy/peppery elements, finishes with a flourish of fruit on the back palate which is accentuated by food.

Brent Marris
Ripe plumy nose. Great black berry fruit concentration with well integrated oak. Element of richness on mid palate finishing with a lovely fruit tannin grip. Works well with the steak as the fruity element of the wine is highlighted and the tannins more subdued.

Ying Tan
Deep red, purple rim. Spicy, crushed red berries, dried herbal and floral notes on nose. Med-full, dry, firm dry tannins, dried herbal fruit, red-berries, Dry, spicy, slightly lean finish. Sirloin brings out fruit, but also the tannins.

Sue Bastian
Deep ruby with pink rim. Medium to high intensity cherry and red fruit notes. Soft fine grain tannin. Moderate length. This wine is uncomplicated and looks a little disjointed with this dish.
