Judges' Comments

Warren Gibson
Beautifully aromatic and spicy. Red licorice and black pepper. Black olive on the palate. Rich and delicious cool climate style. Rich and concentrated. Oak level at the higher end.

Meg Brodtmann
Some stalky aromas with sweet spice, black fruits, blood plum and anise. Initially the palate is all vanilla and clove oak but opens up to brambly fruit and spicy plum sauce. Firm, chalky tannins do not overpower the wine. Beautiful wine both with and without the food.

Dr Ken Dobler
Brilliant deep crimson colour. Complex nose with spiced plum and black cherry aromas. Black pepper, spice and plum notes dominate the palate which is long and moreish. A beautifully weighted palate that really sings with food.

Brent Marris
Rich ripe slightly stewed nose with sweet savoury earthy notes on the palate. Lifted chocolate and coffee notes on the mid palate and ripe plummy tannins of the finish. A very concentrated wine. Stewed notes come through more with the steak. Coffee notes enhanced.

Ying Tan
Deep dark red. Typically Syrah/Shiraz like cracked black pepper, concentrated tar, spice, blackberries on the nose. Full, dry, juicy, but firm tannic backbone, excellent black pepper, spice ,tar , dried floral mid-palate, elegant persistent mid-palate. Dry, fine finish, tailing just a touch dilute. Sirloin softens the wine yet emphasizing balance

Sue Bastian
Inky purple. Dark fruits, soy sauce, coffee, earthy and complex. Very intense palate with similar characters and some roast vegies. Beautifully balanced fine sandy tannin and oak. Good length. The oak dominates the dish a trifle.
