Judges' Comments

Andrew Wigan

Attractive, bright, medium red colour with briary red fruits coming through and a pleasant, lightly structured palate.

Warren Gibson

Lightish colour. Spicy with some raisin notes. Very typical, spicy raisin notes on the palate. Quite long and not overly alcoholic nor sweet on the finish. There is acidity there which helps with the food matching. The sweetness and the lingering finish seem to be extended in the food matching. An excellent example.

Debra Meiburg

Bright red berry fruit with attractive prune hints. Refreshing acidity, excellent terpicity. Good fruit definition. Subtlety. Layers of flavour. Lengthy, flavourable finish. Fantastic with the savoury Asian pork spices. It matched the nutmeg spice, punch for punch.

Mark Robertson

Lighter colour with dusty, earthy characters on the nose. What fruit is there is bright, reminiscent of currants and gooseberries but this wine has a driving oak. It’s not bad. It’s leaner and the volatile acidity shows through with food which is interesting.

Adrian Atkinson

A medium brick colour. A lifted, tutti frutti strawberry nose. On the palate, it had a slightly dry hollowness but with some nice flavours. With the food, you got a bolt of juicy, racy, acidity. It had nice balance and concentration.

Tony Allen

Ripe rhubarb and juicy blueberry fruit on the nose offered much, however the palate was quite linear and short. Rather dominant with the food, but it looked much more attractive. The wine benefited from the food.

Kym Milne

Bright varietal fruit. Berry, mulberry and ripe strawberry characters with a touch of pepper. Quite spicy. A very juicy palate. Mulberry, strawberry flavours and a touch of jam. Very fruity and bright with some noticeable acidity and a touch of sweetness. A very fresh, bright, easy drinking red. It was okay with the food. The acid stood over a little, but the wine is a very good light bodied red and would be great with pasta dishes.
